Letter from the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the participants of the Baku Energy Week

Distinguished Participants,
Esteemed Guests,
I extend my sincere and heartfelt greetings to you. I am greatly pleased to address this distinguished forum, which has brought together global energy leaders, investors, and companies for over 30 years, even if only by the means of a message. Developments in our region once again show us how accurate the steps we have taken in the energy field together with Azerbaijan are. We continue to successfully implement many mega-projects, considered a dream for our region, together with Azerbaijan.
Projects such as the “Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan”, “Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum”, and TANAP pipelines continue to be projects that we started together with Azerbaijan and completed with the contributions of another friendly country, Georgia. “We see that our cooperation with Azerbaijan is deepening further through our partnerships in the ‘Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli’ and ‘Shah Deniz’ projects.
Our new partnership in ‘Shafaq-Asiman’ is further proof that this cooperation continues unabated…
The ‘Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline,’ which entered service last year, has supported and strengthened the energy supply security of the Nakhchivan region. Electricity connections between Türkiye and Azerbaijan continue to be of strategic importance to us. God willing, we hope to contribute to the energy security of our entire region with the implementation of the ‘Green Electricity Transmission and Trade’ project between Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Bulgaria.
Similarly, the gas supply to Syria, which began last August as a result of a joint Turkish-Azerbaijan initiative, has undeniably contributed to the development of that country and regional security. There are great opportunities ahead of us to develop our cooperation regarding the export of Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Türkiye.” We are witnessing the increasing use of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline in delivering Kazakhstan’s natural resources to Western markets.

As Türkiye, we are guided by a vision to ensure efficiency in all aspects of energy, including renewable and green energy, based on productivity and respect for the environment. We have increased the share of renewable energy in our total installed power capacity to 60 percent. In this respect, we rank 5th in Europe and 11th in the world. We plan to quadruple our solar and wind capacity by 2035, and to increase the share of renewable energy to 50 percent and the share of nuclear energy to 29 percent by 2053. We will reinforce our commitment to being one of the leading and exemplary countries in global climate action with the KOP31 Summit, which we will host in Antalya from November 9-20 this year. With these thoughts, I hope that Baku Energy Week will bring good fortune to our countries and our region. I thank those who contributed to the organization of this event; and I extend my warmest greetings to my dear brother, President Aliyev, and all participants.
