Minister: Azerbaijan, IFC preparing roadmap for wind energy potential in sea

The Azerbaijani government jointly with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is preparing a roadmap for using the potential of wind energy in the sea, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Report informs.

“Relevant specialists got involved in the preparation of the roadmap. The main goal is to determine the possibility of using the potential of wind energy in the Caspian Sea. This is necessary both from an economic and a technical point of view. Also, this work should be attractive from a commercial point of view, so that the corresponding investment projects can be implemented in this direction,” he said.

The roadmap will include geospatial and economic analysis, cost modeling, assessment of the supply chain, infrastructure, social and environmental links.

IFC is developing a roadmap jointly with the British company BVG Associates (BVGA) and the government of Azerbaijan.

This study aims to identify the best sites for wind energy development in Azerbaijan’s sea.

The potential of Azerbaijan’s wind power in the sea is estimated at 157 gigawatts.
